Isaac Asimov's The Weapon Too Dreadful to Use is a short story that demonstrates one of his greatest strengths as a writer: the ability to build an engaging science fiction tale around a single compelling idea.

The story feels remarkably forward looking. Asimov was exploring how technological superiority can be used to justify oppression.

The plot centers on the discovery of a weapon so devastating that its very existence changes the balance of power. As with much of Asimov's fiction, the real conflict is not between heroes and villains but between intelligence, fear, and responsibility.

There are what can be called logic gaps in the story. This is a result of idealism being presented as a contrast to colonialism. While I understood how it got there. This could have been handled in a more consistent way. Still, this does not take away for the power of the story.
