A Legacy of Flowers by Linda A. Sanchez is a quiet, deeply personal novel about family, belonging, and the stories we build our lives around. It is not a book driven by plot twists or dramatic revelations. Instead, it unfolds through memory, relationships, and the slow realization that the people we trust most are sometimes the ones capable of hurting us the deepest. It is also a very well named book.
What makes the novel work is how believable its emotional journey feels. There are no villains twirling mustaches. The conflicts come from avoidance, silence, and people choosing comfort over honesty. The betrayal at the center of the story is not sudden. It arrives one small decision at a time, making it feel even more real.
Still the book can feel repetitive in places. Many chapters revisit the same emotional wounds from slightly different angles. While this reinforces LucÃa's journey, a tighter structure would have given some scenes more impact. The supporting characters can also feel more symbolic than fully realized, serving the themes of the story more than existing as independent personalities.
A Legacy of Flowers is ultimately a story about discovering that legacy is not what others choose to give you.
